Support worker pathways

Support Workers workforce pathways in NSW

HPI develops support worker pathways for disability, community, in-home and programme-based services. The pathway begins with the person-centred outcomes, worker duties, environment, safeguards and practical logistics that define a suitable match.

Direct answer

What does HPI's support workers pathway provide?

HPI coordinates a controlled pathway from employer brief to supported commencement for defined support worker requirements. Matching considers capability, communication, availability, location and the service context—not only a list of certificates. The provider retains responsibility for service delivery, participant safeguards, delegation, supervision and final appointment.

Support work may involve personal support, community access, household activity, transport or structured programmes. Each role must therefore identify what is included, what is excluded and what support is available. HPI records these boundaries and the relevant screening or licence requirements before presenting a candidate.

Potential service settings

  • In-home and community participation services
  • Day programmes and community-service settings
  • Disability support under an authorised provider model
  • Regional services with verified travel and support arrangements

Readiness

How does HPI check role readiness?

HPI compares evidence with the verified role requirement and records the source, currency, result and any limitation. Checks are proportionate to the profession, setting and legal or employer requirement. A certificate can evidence completion, but it does not automatically prove competence or authority to work.

  • Identity, work rights, relevant training and employment history
  • NDIS Worker Screening, WWCC or other checks where the role requires them
  • Driver licence, travel and availability evidence where applicable
  • Role boundaries, safeguarding, documentation and incident awareness

Outstanding requirements remain visible and owned. A person progresses only when mandatory controls are addressed or an authorised decision is documented within the responsible organisation's authority.

Capability

How can CPD support this workforce pathway?

HPI can connect role-based CPD to identified capability needs for its staff and approved programme cohorts. Learning is planned, assigned, evidenced and reviewed for application. It complements professional obligations, employer induction, supervision and local competency decisions rather than replacing them.

  • Rights, choice, control and person-centred communication
  • Safeguarding, incidents, complaints and escalation
  • Safe work, infection prevention and service-specific practices
  • Role-relevant CPD, reflection and supported application

Read more about the controlled learning cycle on the staff CPD and workforce capability page.

Employer brief

What information should an employer provide?

A useful workforce request identifies the service, role, location, urgency, duration and decision owner. It should also explain the actual duties, supervision and mandatory evidence. HPI uses this information to build a controlled brief before attraction or candidate presentation begins.

  • Participant or service context without unnecessary personal information
  • Defined duties, exclusions, schedule, location and travel needs
  • Screening, training, licence and experience requirements
  • Supervision, induction, communication and escalation arrangements

Employers can begin with one requirement or compare the three engagement models on the Engage HPI page.

For professionals

What can support workers expect from HPI?

Support workers can register a résumé, work preferences, availability and relevant experience. HPI then considers suitable, verified pathways and explains the evidence required for a particular service. Applicants should not send identity, banking, police-check or unnecessary health information until it is requested through an approved process.

HPI handles applicant information for defined workforce purposes. Submit only the information requested and review the Privacy Policy before using the registration form.
